🔥 Who's Recruiting, Date by Date
The museum's fall listing names the agencies slated to attend, and the rosters differ. Pick your date by the department you want.
Saturday, October 24: the Metropolitan Police Department, Prince George's County Police Department, Montgomery County Police Department, the DC National Guard and American University.
Saturday, November 14: the same three police departments and the DC National Guard, plus Georgetown University, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Northern Virginia and the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
November 14 has the longer list. If MPD, Prince George's or Montgomery County is the goal, either Saturday works. Neither university has said it's hiring for specific jobs at the fair.
💵 What the District's Own Department Pays
MPD is the one agency on both rosters that's hiring for DC streets, and it publishes its terms. According to the department's recruiting site, officers start at $75,433 a year and move to $82,529 after an 18-month probation. New hires get a $25,000 bonus in two parts, $15,000 at the start of the academy and $10,000 after graduation, tied to a two-year service commitment.
To apply you need to be at least 20 and a half, with 45 college credit hours, two years of honorable active-duty service or three years on a full-service police force. There's no residency rule, though District residents get a hiring preference.
⚠️ Read This Before You Go
- No attendee registration link is posted for the fall dates. Earlier fairs in this series asked people to register because space was limited, so call the museum at 202-737-3400 before you go.
- The fall listing doesn't publish an admission price. The February and March fairs in the series were free and included free museum admission. Confirm before you count on it.
- A table isn't a job offer. No agency has posted openings or headcounts for these fairs. Police hiring runs through written exams, fitness tests and background checks that take months.
- The October 24 panel is separate. An 11:00 a.m. talk on the D.C. sniper investigation needs its own ticket.
Different Event, Different Week
Looking for the FBI? It isn't on either museum roster. The Bureau recruits at its own FBI Expo at the DC Armory on Thursday, October 29, followed by a 100-plus-agency law enforcement fair there on Friday, October 30. Different building, different weekday, different requirements: read our FBI Expo and DC Armory guide.
